CURRENT DEVELOPMENT ACTIVIITES
Water Quality and Environment Monitoring

Quality control and management without having consistent monitoring system does not have sense. The understanding of the dynamics of water chemistry by natural process and impact of interferences of human activities are the two most critical aspects that should be considered. WETC from its sound laboratory facilities with its qualified experts (Quality Control Manager - QCM, Geo-hydrologists, scientific administrator) design & develop water quality monitoring systems and database. It provides environmental monitoring services in multidisciplinary sectors. Obviously, the core theme of research prospect of WETC is the relation between human activities and water chemistry change. The regular water quality and environment monitoring task of WETC includes the sample analyses of water, waste water and soil in the turnkey basis.

Air Quality and Noise Level Monitoring Services
Air and Noise pollution is a new environmental issue mounting in fast pace, particularly in urban areas. The impacts of air and noise pollution range from adverse Public Health to Global Warming. WETC has been conducting baseline surveys and monitoring on air and noise pollution in Metropolitan and Sub-Metropolitan cities and industrial areas of Nepal since 2000 applying advanced techniques and has recommended for appropriate mitigation measures.

Innovative System Design:

Escalating water pollution is adding new challenges in water/waste water treatment system design. WETC always search for innovative, cost effective and efficient system through its lesson learnt from the existing practices. For example, new design of WETC for high ammonia and organics removal in drinking water has been proved to be cost effective and efficient, and has widely been adopted by other firms.

Capacity Development
Capacity Development (CD) is one of the main components of WETC. WETC believes that capacity development, technology transfer and system institutionalization has become indispensable for sustainable development. Capacity development unit in WETC aims at changes in behaviour, values, skills and relationships that lead to the improved abilities of groups, organizations and communities to carry out critical performance and achieve desired outcomes over time. WETC organizes capacity development activities such as training, within country and abroad as well. Capacity development by training on water related issues as awareness, health, hygiene, and sanitation is regularly provided as per resources available. Training for Trainers (TOT) is also conducted for organization staffs and trainee from outsides.

WETC working staff has congenial working and research environment created by frequently interactive programs among staffs, researcher, experts and external resource persons. WETC voluntarily has been providing opportunities for new young scientists and students from different Universities for precise data acquisition in fields and in laboratory analytical facilities and data interpretation for their thesis research.

Training Materials
WETC produce training materials such as manuals for training to technician and also Information Education and Communication (IEC) materials. WETC organizes awareness training such as at school, water supply authorities, implementing agencies personals and to the public on quality water health and sanitation.

Additional Activities
Organization of work-shop seminar, demonstration exhibition, celebration of special days such as Earth Day, World Water Day, Environment Day are the regular annual program of WETC is taking leading role. WETC is committed to cooperate UN's Millennium Development Goal (MDG) project on water related issues and health to halve world poverty by 2015.
